Passport:

The Government of Nepal started issuing Machine Readable Passport (MRP) from 26 December 2010. All non-machine readable (hand-written) passports issued before 26 December 2010 shall remain valid up to the date of expiry as mentioned in the Passport or up to 24 November 2015, whichever comes first. All Non-Machine Readable (hand-written) Passport holders can apply for a fresh Passport (MRP) prior to the expiry of their passports they are currently holding.

The Government of Nepal has centralized Passport production and the Department of Passport in Kathmandu is responsible for the processing and production of Machine Readable Passports (MRPs). The Embassy will collect and forward applications for MRPs periodically to the Department of Passport for onward processing, and distribute to the applicant concerned once the Embassy receives new Passport from Department of Passport.
